Embriachi o Embriaci
Famiglia di intagliatori, attivi nei sec. XIV-XV a Firenze e poi a Venezia.

Misura 23x13x7 cm.

Embriachi o Embriaci
Family of carvers, active in the XIV-XV centuries in Florence and then in Venice. The best known representative was Baldassarre (late fourteenth century), who had among his clients the Visconti (for Galeazzo he executed the altarpiece of the Certosa di Pavia, historiated with episodes from the life of Christ and the Virgin) and the bishop of Berry (altar dossal for the abbey of Poissy, today in the Louvre). Baldassarre’s activity was continued by his sons Giovanni and Antonio.
Typical of the Embriachi style (elegant, but without great artistic vivacity) is the inrsio “to the Carthusian”; among their works are caskets, dipthecs, triptychs, portable altars (Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence, Museo Correr in Venice, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Louvre and Musée de Cluny in Paris).
